About Georgia Children’s Chorus
Celebrating more than 25 years of music-making, the Georgia Children’s Chorus (GCC) is a vibrant 50-voice community choral organization for children and youth in residence at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia. Founded in 1997, GCC brings together singers ages 7–18 from across Northeast Georgia, including Barrow, Clarke, Forsyth, Greene, Gwinnett, Jackson, Madison, Morgan, Oconee, Oglethorpe, and Walton counties.
GCC offers young musicians the opportunity to achieve the highest artistic standards in a nurturing and supportive atmosphere. Through rehearsals, performances, and community collaborations, students develop teamwork, discipline, self-expression, and confidence—while also building memories and friendships that last a lifetime.
The chorus presents two major concerts each year in UGA’s Performing Arts Center and frequently partners with local organizations such as the Georgia Museum of Art, Canopy Studio, the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, and UGA Opera Theatre (appearing in productions including Carmen and Hansel and Gretel). GCC singers rehearse at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music and benefit from a unique partnership with UGA’s Department of Music Education through which UGA students serve as teaching fellows and interns within GCC.
GCC includes four ensembles tailored to different ages and skill levels:
Treble Chorus, grades 2–5
Concert Choir, grades 6–12
Lyric Ensemble, an auditioned ensemble for treble voices
Low Key Collective, a tenor/bass ensemble
Led by Artistic Director Natalie Smith, GCC is committed to helping young singers grow as musicians, leaders, and confident individuals through high-quality choral training, meaningful performance opportunities, and a supportive community.
